Carta allows you to watermark your share certificates.
To protect the authenticity of share certificates generated via Carta, you can watermark the certificate documents your stakeholders and administrators can access on Carta:
Watermarking Share Certificates
1. Navigate to Settings > Settings and add-ons.
2. Under Registers, Companies House filings and share certificates, check the box Watermark share certificates. Please note that Enable Company registers and Companies House filings and Enable Carta share certificates must be checked to enable the Watermark feature.
Please note, watermark will only be applied to published transactions. |
3. If signatureless certificates have been already generated, the template will need to be reapplied. Navigate to Ownership > Shares > Certificates.
4. Click Template and then Update all, if you would like to reapply the template for all certificates.
5. You can reply the template for a single certificate by clicking the action button on the right hand side of the certificate entry > Reapply template.
Please note, signed share certificates will have to be resigned if the template is reapplied. |
Where is my original share certificate?
If you hold the original certificate with you, that would be your proof of authenticity. If your share certificate has been watermarked, you might want to reach out to issuing company for further clarifications.
The share certificate issued to you through Carta, whether watermarked or not, is your proof of ownership. You do not need additional certification or offline documents.
To supply a third party with proof of share ownership, you may:
- Show your Carta account or certificate (on mobile or desktop);
- Print out a screenshot of your Carta portfolio showing your holdings;
- Request a download of the executed document from the DocuSign account owner (usually the issuing company). Signature authenticity and document integrity can be validated in a standard PDF application such as Adobe.
Watermarks are applied to Carta share certificates at the discretion of the issuer.
