This is a guide on how to create an import file to bulk upload share issuances/transfers with share numbers on Carta.
What is share numbers?
Share numbers is a compliance requirement used in some European countries. According to compliance, all shares must have a unique share number. In order to add share numbers to the excel file, you will need to make sure you have activated share numbers in the company settings.
The import file to register and upload share issuances with share numbers will work the same way as creating a simple import file for share issuances with the distinction that you need to add the share numbers as well.
The share_numbers column (X) on the import file is where the share numbers should be entered.
You now have two choices:
- Auto-generate shares - Simply ignore share numbers in the file and the system will auto generate share numbers for all transactions.
- Insert share numbers - In order to add share numbers yourself, you will need to add the column: share_intervals to the existing fields. Learn about the existing fields here. In this column, you can write in share intervals like 1-5, 7-8, 9,-10 etc.
Make sure the quantity of shares issued suits the share numbers.
Once this column is added and the import file is completed, you will be able to upload and publish the transactions.
