Easily generate your compliance statement as and when required.
It is now possible to generate compliance statements through Carta leveraging the data on the platform. For the purpose of this article we will refer to the EIS compliance statement workflow, but the steps described are also applicable to SEIS compliance statements.
Enabling EIS/SEIS in Carta
Ensure EIS/SEIS are enabled by navigating to Settings > Settings and Add-Ons.

Expand the EIS and SEIS menus and ensure the boxes are checked. Save at the bottom of the page.

Generating Compliance Statement
1. Navigate to Compliance > Filings > HMRC.

2. Click Generate filings > EIS compliance statement.

3. Select filling data.

Select advance assurance: from the dropdown menu, select an Advance Assurance. Please note that only fillings marked as Approved will appear. Click +Register new advance assurance if the approved advanced assurance is not reflected in Carta. This is not a mandatory field.
Select share issuances
All non-filed SEIS/EIS share issuances: this will show all non-filed EIS transactions.
Specific non-filed SEIS/EIS share issuances: choose a date range and select specific transactions.
4. Click Review filing data.

5. If there is missing EIS filling data such as the shareholder address, you will be prompted to add the missing details. Then click Continue.

6. Review the information submitted and click Download filling data.

Any transactions that are not issued in GBP will have the Amount invested automatically converted to GBP using a conversion rate as of the day the transaction was registered. This will be displayed for each relevant transaction and more details are available by clicking the Amount invested.

7. You will be prompted with a Download option as well as Submit to HMRC shortcut to file your documents through a panel box on the bottom right corner of your screen.

8. Once filed with HMRC, navigate to Compliance > Filings > HMRC and click the Actions button for the applicable compliance statement and select Mark as filed.

9. Follow the same steps to Mark as approved or Mark as rejected.
